Homework Policy
Each morning students complete a daily "self start" activity. They are designed to get students ready to learn the core content of the day and/or to review what they have already learned. These self-starts are graded by the students themselves and they share their goals, strengths and next steps.
With your child in third grade, expect to see homework come home that will take a minimum of third minutes per night. Homework is assigned Monday thru Thursday. Every first Wednesday of each month, is a Focus on the Family Night. On these days homework will not be assigned.
Students will write down their homework in their agendas. Agendas are to be signed by parent's every night, except for Friday. On Friday's agendas will stay in each students' desk, so that they are not lost.
Expect to see a lot of reading and math homework.
In addition to math and reading homework, your child might also be assigned other homework like performance based projects, real-life connections, writing, and/or open response questions.
You can always come to this site to get in advance the homework that will be assigned for each week.
Homework assignments will be reviewed by the students the next day and are part of their educational experience. I believe that the children learn best when they correct their own homework. This is also an opportunity for students to set goals for themselves and work towards those goals! Homework review has always been a very fun and rewarding experience for each grade group that I have worked with. As I tell the students, "This is your thinking. This is your work. You've got to be honest with yourself and correct what you do not understand or ask questions so that I can help you understand."

W.O.W. Folders are sent home every Wednesday.
Instead of sending information from the office every day in bits and pieces, Field Elementary has a system in which all information coming from the office, PTA or principal is to be sent home in the Wednesday folder. This means every Wednesday you will receive a letter from the principal, field trip forms for your child, a newsletter from our classroom, and all flyers and information all in one folder.
Please sign this folder upon receiving it and send it back with your child to school on Thursday.
Thank you :) !
