Reading Overview
This year I will continue to use a combination of The Daily 5, Rigby, Five Block and Differentiation. By using these best practice strategies students will gain independence while working on interactive reading acitvities consisting of: read to self, buddy reading, listening, working with words and writing. Students will have a choice of centers and/or menus. While students are working independenly by themselves, with a partner, or small learning group, I will be working with a small group of children at their instructional level. Whole group instruction in the form of read aloud and shared readings is done at the start of each of day. Some students will also be working on SuccessMaker and/or will receive additional reading support. This is done to ensure that all students have a common learning experience while receiving fundamental comprehension instruction. These comprehension strategies include: making connections, visualizing, questioning, inferring and determining importance. During the small group instruction, individualized and targeted instruction is provided through guided reading groups. Students will also be assessed using DRA2 and the Monster Spelling Test. They will be setting their own personal learning goals and having independent reading conferences with me to ensure that yes, they are meeting the goals that they set for themselves as readers and writers.
